Business Card Checklist
Does your business card - stink?
Has it been a while since you've updated your business card?
Like your car, your marketing materials need regular attention if they’re to get you where you want to go. Begin by looking at your current card through the eyes of a prospective customer.
Better yet, get together a group of business colleagues and critique each other’s cards. (If you find it difficult to criticize someone’s card to their face, one option is to copy 4 or 6 cards onto a sheet of paper, leaving room to write unsigned comments next to each card. Give everyone a sheet.)
Take this simple test below and check all those that apply to your card. The more checked, the better! The criteria have been divided into four general categories.
Overall Impression:
- Card conveys the desired overall impression (e.g. serious, bold, friendly, precise, casual)
- Card appears uncluttered
Design:
- Card stock has firm, crisp feel with smooth edges
- Type style and text size are easy to read
- Logo (if used) is professional and unique - not stock clip art
- Color and design are appropriate for your industry and clientele
Content:
- All information is current and only essential information is included
- The back of the card is utilized for additional information
- Any photos are recent and do not appear dated
- Email address is included (not “freebie” address; include website if applicable)
- Preferred contact method is highlighted (larger font, different color, et cetera)
- Users can tell what you do just by looking at your card
Marketing Potential:
- Card elicits favorable response (“Hey, great card!”)
- Card gives someone a reason to do business with you (benefits, discount)
- Card is consistently carried and given out at every possible opportunity
- Card often encourages people to ask for more information about your business
